BlackBerry Handheld Software Upgrade to v5.0.0.822 = Total Bummer!

Posted by in Technology

I upgraded my BlackBerry 8900 handheld software to v5.0.0.822 few days back. Despite the time frame it was due for, I’m not quite sure I am too happy with the overall upgrade. To start off, I absolutely hate the way text messages are shown as a conversation now (similar to iphone). From the main text message window, if you delete, what appears to be, one message from a contact, it deletes the full conversation. Come on now BlackBerry, you know you could better than that! Also you would have to…read more

How to install WordPress MU 2.9.2

Posted by in Technology, Tutorials

1) Download WordPress MU from here. 2) Extract all files to a directory of choice. For instance, http://[domain]/wp 3) Create an database (without adding tables) named “wordpress” without the quotes. 4) Use http://[domain]/wp to access your blog. On first attempt, it would take you to a window where you can configure the settings. Couple of things to notice here, if you’re installing wordpress MU locally, then use the IP address http://127.0.0.1 instead of typing http://localhost. The reason being, if you use http://localhost, it will ask you to use http://localhost.localdomain which…read more

How to parse RSS Feed XML from Blogspot using PHP

Posted by in Code Snippets, Technology

Mighty PHP allows us to do just about anything our hearts desire. Copy and paste the following code to your web page, and you’ll be parsing blog posts from blogspot in no time. The nifty little simplexml_load_file function used here allows you to parse XML files with a level of ease comparable to picking teeth with a toothpick. This function alone opened up a new horizon of creativity for me. I hope you guys find this useful and come up with your own creative ways of exploiting this function for…read more

Oh stop it Robots! Pretty please?

Posted by in Code Snippets, Technology

So most of us who have a website, usually want the contents to be searchable over the world wide web – I mean that’s the whole point for putting up a website in the first place, right? While we are so eager about our contents getting more hits, there are rare cases however, when we actually do feel a bit shy about the popularity of our pages over search engines like Google. It is then and only then do we look for ways to tell the web robots to stay…read more

Do it with a smile

Posted by in Personal

I’ve always liked seeing people smile. And I always loved making them. There are very few things in this world that can make me as happy as making people smile. I’ve often gone beyond the normal to do so. It’s addictive, it’s rewarding and it never has to stop. Whatever makes you smile, it makes me smile too. Life has not been always a colorful butterfly for anyone. Everybody gets hurt. Everyone has had tears in their eyes. Everyone felt lonely at times. Everyone has felt out of context at…read more

DTV Transition

Posted by in Events

DTV transition took place earlier in the mid of this year after a gruesome fight for change of deadlines. Being in the test team and thus, down at the SDLC chain, the change of deadlines had a significant impact on our work load. Nonetheless, both the web team who were responsible for designing and developing the site and the test team did a great job on the successful relaunch of DTV 2.0 and keeping up to its hype even till after the transition, which finally and gracefully* took place on…read more

The Moon

Posted by in Photography

Here is an example of times when boredom leads to random productivity. As I was reading up on an article online to show how to take pictures of the moon, I decided to follow the instructions as much as I could and these are some of the pics I got to take. Such are the times when I wish I had an Image Stabilized Lens! That bit aside, here are some of the pictures.

Green Day Concert, Washington DC

Posted by in Events

ne of the perks of working where I work is the free tickets I get to special events at the Verizon Center here in the nation’s capital. The band whose songs were played in many memorable events in my life, now performed before me live. And the best part of it all is that it was as inexpensive to view as it would’ve been if I were to watch them on YouTube. Free concerts always sound good. Greenday made it sound even better. They started out with songs from their…read more

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

I’m putting the famous 3R quote from Captain Planet to yet another use. This time, I’m applying it to my very own website which I had known from 2002 under various domain names and disowned countless times. But this time, I’m sticking to the sufinawaz.com domain name for good. I had been lazy enough to not put it back up after taking it down for several months now. But enough is enough, I said to myself! And along came the idea of importing the feeds from blogspot and picasaweb albums…read more
